Preserving Miami’s History, Inspiring Its Future: Griffin Catalyst Makes Landmark $20 Million Gift to Vizcaya
The gift will support the revitalization of Vizcaya Village — the original working estate across the street from the museum — and accelerate plans to expand public access, educational opportunities, and cultural programming for Miami residents and visitors.
A centerpiece of this investment will be the creation of a new Center for Learning and Discovery at Vizcaya Village, featuring hands-on artmaking, urban-agriculture programs, and immersive learning experiences for students, families, and the broader community. The Center will transform several historic buildings originally used as barns and stables into a vibrant campus for creativity and exploration.
Griffin Catalyst Founder Ken Griffin and Vizcaya will also pursue the process to relocate Villa Serena — the 1913 home built for former U.S. Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan — to Vizcaya Village, where it could be open to the public for the first time in 111 years. Pending public approval, Villa Serena would become a new cultural asset on the site, supported by an additional $5 million endowment from Ken to ensure its long-term preservation and public use.
“Vizcaya’s vision for a vibrant Village will connect Miami to its remarkable past and inspire what’s possible for its future. Its expansion will bring history to life in new ways, sparking curiosity, creativity, and connection across our community. I’m proud to support an institution that reflects Miami’s spirit—its history, ambition, and enduring drive to create something extraordinary.”
“This is a transformative moment for Vizcaya,” said Joel Hoffman, Executive Director and CEO of Vizcaya. “Ken Griffin’s extraordinary $20 million gift will accelerate our vision for Vizcaya Village as a center for education, history, and community engagement.”
With nearly 400,000 visitors each year, Vizcaya is one of South Florida’s most beloved destinations for art, history, and nature. Griffin Catalyst’s commitment will catalyze Vizcaya’s forthcoming fundraising campaign and advance plans to restore historic buildings and landscapes, expand educational programs, and reimagine Vizcaya Village as a vibrant cultural destination for Miami.
The support reflects Griffin Catalyst’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to arts, culture, history, and learning opportunities across South Florida and beyond.
