Northwestern Medicine Names Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital Following Landmark Gift from Griffin Catalyst

Northwestern Medicine has announced a landmark gift from Ken Griffin to expand access to comprehensive, patient-focused health care and strengthen critical services at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital. In recognition of the gift, among the largest in Northwestern Medicine’s history, Lake Forest Hospital will be named Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital in honor of Ken’s mother.

The gift will support the hospital’s upcoming expansion, which includes the opening of two new pavilions in 2026, 96 additional inpatient beds, a larger Emergency Department, and enhanced cancer, cardiac, and neuroscience services.

“The extraordinary care provided at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital is a reflection of the very qualities my mother has embodied throughout her life — selflessness, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to others. Our family is proud to support the remarkable team at Northwestern Medicine, whose dedication helps countless people live healthier, more fulfilling lives.”

Opened in 2018, Lake Forest Hospital blends advanced clinical capabilities with the warmth of a community hospital, caring for generations of families — including the Griffin family. “I feel so grateful to my son Ken for honoring this special place and supporting the people who make it what it is,” said Catherine Gratz Griffin. “It means the world to know that this tradition of caring will continue to touch families for generations to come.”

This gift builds on Ken’s long-standing commitment to advancing science, medicine, and community well-being — including recent support for Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami and other leading medical institutions nationwide.
