Giving Families a Home to Heal: Griffin Catalyst Helps Expand Capacity at Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida
In recognition of this leadership gift, the charity’s new seven-story, 54-guestroom facility—opening early next year—will be named the Griffin Family Campus.
The $33 million, 60,000-square-foot expansion, located at the Jackson Memorial Medical Campus, addresses a severe shortage of affordable lodging for families traveling to South Florida for critical pediatric treatment. The new campus will nearly double the organization’s capacity, enabling RMHC South Florida to serve more than 420 families annually and provide approximately 5,740 nights of comfort and care each year.
Today, the existing 31-room Ronald McDonald House is forced to turn away more than 100 families annually due to limited space—leaving some parents to sleep in hospital chairs or in their cars while their children undergo treatment.
“Excellent medical care is strengthened when families are able to be together,” said Ken. “The extraordinary new campus of the Ronald McDonald House will let more families stay together during the moments that matter most.”
Soraya Rivera-Moya, Executive Director of RMHC South Florida, called Griffin Catalyst’s gift transformative for families in medical crisis. “When a child is fighting a complex illness, the presence of their family is a clinical necessity that drives better outcomes,” she said. “This gift allows us to replace our ‘waitlist’ with a ‘welcome,’ giving many more families a home away from home to rest, recover, and stay together as they heal.”
The Griffin Family Campus will serve as a sanctuary for thousands of families seeking care at one of the nation’s leading public health systems. Griffin Catalyst’s support underscores the continued commitment to strengthening Miami as a premier destination for medical excellence and patient-centered care.
